EQUiP - SUMMER SERIES: THE GOSPEL

Whether you are an unbeliever curious to learn more about what Christianity is all about, or a new believer trying to figure out how to describe the change that has recently occurred and your place in the big picture, or even if you are a seasoned veteran Christian needing a reminder of the greatest story ever told, these courses on the Gospel will prove to be quite the Summer investment.

"The gospel is so simple that small children can understand it, and it is so profound that studies by the wisest theologians will never exhaust its riches." - Charles Hodge

The Story

This introductory class provides the perfect entry point to understanding the big picture of Christianity.  In fact, this curriculum now serves as the material for the Foundation's (New Believer's) Class at Old Fort Baptist Church.  If you are a fan of movies and/or just a great story, then you'll love hearing the big picture of the Bible taught in this class.

The Story Primer Guide was developed to be an entry point into the narrative of the Bible. Designed to teach believers to know, live, and share the Story of God, the Primer Guide brings Biblical theology into practice. This curriculum is designed to help the church practically, powerfully communicate the gospel story with their families, neighbors, and co-workers. The Primer Guide is a practical companion for believers learning how to craft the metanarrative of scripture.

God's Good News: The Gospel

A healthy church is a church in which every member - young and old, mature and immature - unites around the wonderful good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Toward that end, this introductory study pays close attention to the gospel as defined in Romans 1-4.  Participants will learn the Bible's teaching on God, man, Christ, and our response, and see how these truths apply to the practices of the local church.

This series explores the biblical foundations of key aspects of the church, helping Christians to live out those realities accessibly written, the format of this series is guided, inductive discussion of Scripture passages and is ideal for use in Sunday school, church-wide studies, or small group contexts.

Gospel Revolution - J.D. Greear

This intermediate study leads group members to understand how to let the gospel work in their hearts the way religion never has or could.  On a journey to greater understanding of the gospel, J.D. Greear ran through all the religious activities typically associated with a disciple's life: giving, adopting, missionality, preaching, and witnessing.  Though disciplined and intentional in all aspects, only when J.D. "discovered" the gospel of Jesus Christ did everything change.  That's why the objective of Gospel Revolution is to help group members abide in Jesus.  They will find that when they do, passion, self-control, kindness, patience, and generosity are the natural results.  Marriage will change.  Participants will become more self-disciplined.  They will be less selfish.  Not by concentrating on these things, but as a result of being captivated by the love of Christ.

Explicit Gospel - Matt Chandler

This intermediate study provides Bible study content, learning activities, and group experiences.  In an explanation that embraces the whole of Scripture, Matt Chandler defines what the gospel is - and what it is not.  This Bible study includes the specifics of the gospel as well as its fullness, clearly outlining its massive implications on both personal and cosmic levels.

The Gospel for Real Life - Jerry Bridges

This intermediate course provides members the opportunity to work through a book study of Jerry Bridges’s “The Gospel for Real Life: Turn to the Liberating Power of the Cross…Every Day.”  The gospel of Jesus Christ is the door to eternal life, but what difference does it make once we’re inside God’s kingdom?  Jerry Bridges says the gospel is the very lifeblood of our walk with God.  It is the key to our salvation, for sure, but it is also the power for our daily progress in holiness.  This book study includes a study guide to help members experience every day “the unsearchable riches of Christ” that are available to us in the gospel..

God is the Gospel - John Piper

In this intermediate/in depth study, John Piper awakens you to the highest, best, final, and decisive good of the gospel, without which no other gifts would be good.

Some people say forgiveness makes the gospel good news.  Others suggest that being saved from hell or gaining freedom from a guilty conscience makes it good news.  But the Bible tells us the gospel is good news not because of its many peripheral blessings, but because it brings us to God - and to utter delight in Him as our all-sufficient and everlasting treasure.

Each study guide comes complete with Scripture and key quotations for reflection, penetrating questions, and five daily assignments per week.
